I love learning new words. I have a list of my favorite words. I have words that I like to say as often as possible. I must, therefore, be a logophile.
Which is why I like Word Spy, a little website that tracks the creation and usage of new words. Words like peanut-buttering and bleachorexia (which seems to be quite present in American culture). But, a new word caught my attention: de-Scottishify. Granted, I have only lived in Scotland for a little over a year, but I have been here long enough to see that there are ways that Scots have (and continue to be) marginalized. Now, there is a word for it. Granted, the company in question did so from fears that they would be boycotted because of the release of the Lockerbie bomber, but a large majority of the Scottish people were not behind that decision. And yet, my intention is not to rise up and assist the SNP, but rather to point up the way new words are formed, and to say that this land has much more to offer than Lockerbie wreckage and tartan pieces.
I want to know what's on the list of favorite words so I can use them as much as possible. :) I have a list of words I DON'T like. :)
